TOPIC: 40AX BB Transfer Port Alignment?

40AX BB Transfer Port Alignment? 11 years, 7 months ago #102

Hi, I have just bought my first NV engine, a 40AX BB.

I have just noticed when looking into the cylinder through the exhaust port that with two of the 5 transfer ports, the transfer channels in the crankcase do not line up with the transfer port holes in the cylinder wall.

If you were to number the transfer ports 1-5, ports 2 and 4 appear to be partially blocked by the crankcase port alignment.

Is this normal? I can provide photos if required.

Regards

Hi,
Took the head off today, 4 of the 6 transfer ports have the transfer channels in the crankcase partially blocking the transfer ports in the cylinder liner. Up to approx 2mm in each port.

I have tried to attach photos, but cannot get them to upload. Have tried 2 different computers and different web browsers. After selecting the photo to upload and click upload, nothing happens. Will try again tomorrow

I am interested to know if anyone else who owns a 40AX BB finds the same thing.

A friend of mine has one. I'll see him on Wednesday hopefully. I'll contact him and ask if he can bring it along.

Well he brought the NV 40 BB along and we can't see any restriction to any port even after taking the head button off.

Is it possible that the cylinder has been replaced 90 degrees out of normal alignment?

Sorry I can't really help. Good luck.
